[...] Bruce Grossman took some bullets for us this week. It looks like he’ll pull through, but he read THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.: THE THOUSAND COFFINS AFFAIR, NINJA MASTER #3: BORDERLAND OF HELL, and MODESTY BLAISE: LAST DAY IN LIMBO for this week’s BULLETS, BROADS, BLACKMAIL & BOMBS. What little respite he received came in the form of FUNERAL IN BERLIN by Len Deighton. I feel for you, brother. [...]

Mike Avallone claimed he wrote that U.N.C.L.E. book in one marathon writing session that lasted about 24 hours. There are some discrepancies between it and the TV series, but he was working from the series bible and there were changes made before any of the episodes aired. I bought the book when it was brand-new, read it and loved it, but I've never reread it to see how it holds up. You should try Harry Whittington's U.N.C.L.E. novel and also the novellas he wrote in the U.N.C.L.E. digest magazine as "Robert Hart Davis". All of the digest stories, by pros like Whittington, Dennis Lynds, and John Jakes are good.

I'm also a Modesty Blaise fan, but I think the novels get a little weaker as the series goes along.
