Here’s what shaking down at the new release shelves today, folks. Get ‘em now before they hit the bargain bin!
• Steve Berry’s THE TEMPLAR LEGACY – not to be confused with the recent THE LAST TEMPLAR, though we wouldn’t fault you if you did – is another thriller with religious overtones like his previous works (i.e. THE THIRD SECRET), but now with the added value of Templar Knights.
• THE TWO-MINUTE RULE refers to the time bank robbers allot themselves to get in and out with bags of cash. Or at least in this, the latest crime novel from HOSTAGE author Robert Crais.
• Hey, isn’t there a two-minute rule in porno movies? As in, someone’s gotta be bangin’ someone or something within the first 120 seconds? I suppose we could consult THE OTHER HOLLYWOOD: THE UNCENSORED ORAL HISTORY OF THE PORN FILM INDUSTRY by Legs McNeil and Jennifer Osborne, which is just what it says it is, and hits paperback today. We reviewed the hardcover (heh, heh, hardcover!) edition way back when.
• If that’s too lowbrow for you, perhaps you’re a film snob. In which case, may we recommend THE FILM SNOB’S DICTIONARY? No? Well, we just did. It defines such cinematic terms as “wire fu” and “Sam Raimi.” In that case, shouldn’t it be called GEEK instead of SNOB?
• Finally, GRAPHIC CLASSICS: RAFAEL SABATINI adapts the work of the early 20th-century adventure writer to comic-book form. Included are comics for seven Sabatini swashbucklers, including CAPTAIN BLOOD, adapted by yours truly. You can view eight sample pages from the book here.
