Science fiction author Octavia E. Butler – most recently of the vampire novel
FLEDGLING – has died at the age of 58 after falling outside her home.
Butler, who debuted in 1979 with the time-travel parable
KINDRED, is credited as the first African-American female writer to receive national prominence in the sci-fi genre.
