annotated sherlock holmes reviewNot a whole heckuva a lot in the way of new releases today, but we’ve managed to find a few. Remember to click those links, kids! Just try it; we dare you!

• Break out your piggy bank, because THE NEW ANNOTATED SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE NOVELS is finally out. Editor Leslie S. Klinger’s final piece to the almighty puzzle that is the complete work featuring Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary character collects the four Holmes novels – A STUDY IN SCARLET, THE SIGN OF FOUR, THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES and THE VALLEY OF FEAR – and supplements them with period illustrations from the original novels, essays, footnotes and other miscellany, in just about the nicest hardcover set your hands will ever touch. If you’ve seen the previous two short-story volumes, you know that we know of what we speak. For fans of classic detective fiction, this book is the shizznit, as the kids like to say. Not my kids, but still.

• For those keeping track, George R. R. Martin’s A FEAST FOR CROWS is the fourth book in his “Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy series. I’m not one of those who keeps track, so I had to look up what it’s about. So I did, but I’m still not sure. Something about a crazy queen and an evil king, and nothing to do with a Golden Corral-like buffet for annoying black birds. I’m still not sure, to be honest, but seeing as how Martin’s last book in the series was five years ago, this one is going to sell big.

• Lastly, flying under the radar but attracting good notices is IT’S SUPERMAN! by DERBY DUGAN author Tom De Haven. This novel reimagines the life of a teenage Clark Kent as he grapples with his super powers and becomes a reporter (though not a particularly good one) for the Daily Planet as World War II breaks out. And somewhere in there, Lex Luthor and his robots. Awesome. Look for our review soon, sometime before Christmas.

For those of you not fortunate enough to have a Golden Corral in town, it’s like an Old Country Buffet, except tackier and with more cowboy hats. The people in there do scream loudly at their kids and let their babies run wild though…just like at Wal-Mart.
