What Would Rob Do?: An Irreverent Guide to Surviving Life’s Daily Indignities

From Rob Sachs’ NPR podcast comes WHAT WOULD ROB DO?: AN IRREVERENT GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE’S DAILY INDIGNITIES. From removing stains on your shirt to having a life while being a dad, Sachs spells it out for readers, with a fair amount of self-deprecation and wit.

Separated into thematic sections (i.e. romance, family, inconveniences), the author’s advice may not always be practical, but it’s always at least interesting to read. Some chapters hold genuine value, such as what to do if you’re pooping at a guest’s house and the toilet looks as if it’s about to overflow, while others don’t, like finding yourself naked in public. Does that happen outside of movies?

And a good amount falls somewhere in between. For instance, making someone a mixtape (Google it, kids) may not seem problematic or stressful, but Sachs does offer a few tips about ensuring the message you wish to convey comes through in your song choice. For this — and every other dilemma — he consults industry experts. But as for being amusing, he can do that on his own just fine, thanks. —Rod Lott
