If it’s a new installment in a looooong-running series you seek for new reading material during this fine week, you’re in luck. Two times!
• FIDDLERS is the 55th (!) – and sadly, final – of Ed McBain’s enduring 87th Precinct novels. McBain, who died earlier this summer, is credited with inventing the police procedural with the first 87th Precinct novel, 1956′s COP HATER. Those who have visited that world at any point in the series will no doubt find this swan song bittersweet.
• Terry Pratchett has a long way to go to catch up to McBain, as his new THUD! is “only” the 30th entry in his Discworld series. I know nothing of Discworld personally, but hey, there are other people here at Bookgasm besides me, one of whom vows to cover this for you, dear reader … if the review copy comes through. So check back soon for that, hopefully.
Whadda you think? Picking these or any other new releases up? That’s what the comments link up top is for, bub.
