Following Michael Chabon’s two volumes of THRILLING TALES and ASTONISHING STORIES, humor site McSweeney’s is set to release a short story anthology just for kids, but it looks too good for big boys like me to pass up, too.
Also containing crossword puzzles, illustrations and charts ‘n’ graphs, the book is called – take a deep breath, please – NOISY OUTLAWS, UNFRIENDLY BLOBS AND SOME OTHER THINGS THAT AREN’T AS SCARY, MAYBE, DEPENDING ON HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT LOST LANDS, STRAY CELLPHONES, CREATURES FROM THE SKY, PARENTS WHO DISAPPEAR IN PERU, A MAN NAMED LARS FARF, AND THREE OTHER STORIES WE COULDN’T QUITE FINISH, SO MAYBE YOU COULD HELP US OUT. Who came up with that title? Fiona Apple?
Esteemed contributors include Neil Gaiman, Lemony Snicket, Nick Hornby and Jonathan Safran Foer. It hits stores sometime in late September or early October, but it’s up for preorder now.
