Unavailable for years, David Seltzer’s THE OMEN is headed to possess bookstores once more in May, in conjunction with the release of the film OMEN 666.
OMEN 666 is a remake of the original 1976 horror classic starring Gregory Peck, for which Seltzer novelized his own screenplay. Although it’s been a couple of decades, I have fond memories of reading it in junior high alongside THE EXORCIST and ROSEMARY’S BABY.
Hopefully the book will stick to its May 30 release date (you can preorder it now) and not suffer the same fate as Jay Anson’s THE AMITYVILLE HORROR. That infamous novel was slated to come back into print last April to tie in with the film remake, but strangely didn’t until very recently, months after the publicity window passed.

Dude,
Let me know if/when you read this. I’m always intrigued by novels made from films that end up being more than just crappy by-the-numbers cash-ins.
The best ever example of a movie novelization is The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension by Earl Mac Rauch. It is everything the movie was supposed to be–a pulpy throwback to the old days of Doc Savage and The Avenger.
I’ll definitely be (re)reading this one. As I recall, it was good. You should be encouraged since it was written by the screenwriter himself.
