crystal lake memories friday the 13th reviewLots of horror marks the bulk of this week’s notable new releases. I would’ve figured most of these would come out a week before Halloween rather than a day after, but I don’t make the schedule, folks. What I do make is all these links clickable, so you can learn more and place orders. Yes, BOOKGASM loves you.

CHRIST THE LORD: OUT OF EGYPT is the week’s biggest title, being the new novel from Anne Rice. Yep, you read right. Jesus. Anne Rice. Wha huh? Look for our review a little later today.

• F. Paul Wilson’s INFERNAL is the ninth novel of his Repairman Jack series. Here, the paranormal fix-it man has an adventure involving terrorists, sunken treasure and people who disappear to another dimension. I’ve yet to try a Repairman Jack novel, but look to remedy that with this installment.

• For a double dose of Wilson, the paperback edition of his vampire novel MIDNIGHT MASS is out. Having read and enjoyed the short-story version in THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF VAMPIRES, from which this was expanded, we’ve already got ours. What we don’t have is the time to read it yet.

• More vampires? To commemorate the title’s 30th anniversary, Stephen King fans can look forward to ‘SALEM’S LOT: ILLUSTRATED EDITION, a new hardcover featuring feature eight black-and-white photos by Jerry Uelsmann (KINGDOM HOSPITAL), two previously unpublished short stories related to the novel and a new introduction from King himself. Oh, and 50 new pages that make it the “masterpiece as (King) always envisioned it.”

CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES: THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF FRIDAY THE 13TH is Peter Bracke’s oral and visual record of the 11-films-so-far horror franchise of Jason Voorhees, containing interviews with more than 100 cast and crew members. This is also limited to 5,000 copies, so if you want it, you’d better get it now. (Myself, I harbor a soft spot for JASON X.)

GRAPHIC CLASSICS: ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE – SECOND EDITION offers a new-and-improved collection of Sherlock Holmes and other Doyle stories, adapted to comic book form. In case you missed it, we offered a four-page preview here.

• Finally, TOM CLANCY’S SPLINTER CELL: BARRACUDA is David Michaels’ sequel to last year’s TOM CLANCY’S SPLINTER CELL. That book was pure escapist fun, and from this I expect nothing less, nothing more.
