Bust a Move: Six Decades of Dance Crazes

Yesterday’s ill-advised dance craze is today’s dose of nostalgia. Relive more than half a century’s worth in BUST A MOVE: SIX DECADES OF DANCE CRAZES, a good-natured guide by the has-to-be-a-pseudonym J.K. Manero.

Organized and color-coded by decade, the book devotes a spread to each fad, from the Hand Jive of the 1950s up to today’s Cranking, which is something I don’t even know about. Icon-driven illustrations demonstrate the move in four steps; you supply the soundtrack. For the dance-adverse like me, the best thing about BUST is its sleek, fun graphic design by Headcase. I know, I know: That’s a real wallflower thing to say. —Rod Lott
