GRAPHIC CLASSICS to illustrate SABATINI

graphic classics rafael sabatini reviewAround Feb. 15, GRAPHIC CLASSICS will unveil its 13th volume of classics-to-comics adaptations, GRAPHIC CLASSICS: RAFAEL SABATINI. Although arguably not as well-known as the series’ past spotlighted authors – ranging from Arthur Conan Doyle to Edgar Allan Poe – Sabatini was quite a popular adventure writer in his time, turning out such works as THE SEA HAWK, SCARAMOUCHE and his crowning achievement, the swashbuckling pirate novel CAPTAIN BLOOD.

Indeed, an adapatation of BLOOD leads the new collection, which features the art of Carlo Vergara, Stan Shaw, Kevin Atkinson, Roger Langridge and others. You can pre-order the SABATINI volume here, and enjoy eight sample pages after the jump.

His place descriptions are masterful, taking us away to exotic times and lands. I wasn’t sure I was going to like this LOST CLASSICS collection, but now I think it’s an important addition to pulp history. And one hell of a lot of fun. [...]
