island of dr moreau review h.g. wellsFor a price, of course! With 2006 marking a full six-decade life of Penguin Classics, “the world’s preeminent publisher of great literature,” they’re offering a celebratory present to readers.

Spend $40 at their website now through March 1 and you’ll receive “a special gift bag from us containing a Penguin Classics pen, and a CD featuring songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new Broadway musical, THE WOMAN IN WHITE, based on the classic English psychological thriller by Wilkie Collins.” Spend $5 more and you’ll also get an “anniversary accordion calendar, featuring beautifully designed Penguin Classics book covers.”

Seems a little pricey for a pen and a CD that’s widely panned, but it’d be nice to have the calendar, as their covers – like the one pictured for H.G. Wells’ THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU – are too cool.
