A federal district court has decided that online print-on-demand publishers can’t be held liable for libelous statements in the books they print, as they have no editorial process. The decision comes in the bizarre case of two warring teenage girls that resulted in one family writing a book about the other girl, titled HELP US GET MIA … , then printing it via Amazon’s BookSurge. It’s quite the sordid story.

TWO IN ONE WEEK … BUMMER
On the heels of FLETCH creator Gregory McDonald’s Sept. 8 death at the age of 71, INFINITE JEST author David Foster Wallace has also died, at the age of 46, via suicide. If I could figure out how to do superscript, I’d footnote the hell out of this item in Wallace’s honor.
