TOR PRICE- ’JACK’S WILSON
Along with the earlier mentioned Aug. 1 paperback reissue of F. Paul Wilson’s THE TOMB for only $4.99, Tor seeks to entice even more new followers to the Church of Wilson with equally cheap new editions of THE KEEP and ALL THE RAGE the same day. If we weren’t already a convert, his Repairman Jack story in the current THRILLER anthology would’ve done it for us.
R.I.P. JIM BAEN
Influential science fiction publisher Jim Baen – of Baen Books, naturally – has passed away at the age of 62, having recently suffered a stroke. Fans are asked to memoralize Baen by buying copies of his current anthology THE WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN and donate them to libraries or teenagers. I’m almost (but not quite) ashamed to admit we’ve only reviewed one Baen Books release here at BOOKGASM – John Ringo’s GHOST – and two months later, we ended up calling it the worst novel of 2005.
SCARES TO SPARE
Perfect for wavering attention spans, the Horror Channel’s website is presenting “Daily Scares,” a collection of one-paragraph scare stories by author Jeff Ryan. Initial titles include such 500-word tales of brevity/depravity as “Potato Eyes,” “Cumulus,” “Stevie’s Water Gun” and “Prissy Slaughter.” Which sounds intriguing and all, but I can come up with a one-sentence horror story: John Ringo has published a GHOST sequel. Aaaaaaiiiiieeeee!!!!!

Monday’s NEWSGASM talked about one such well-mannered writer, F. Paul Wilson, whom I’ve sent congratulatory e-mails to several times. I really dig his work, and the universe he’s created around Repairman Jack is a good one. All the better that the books are getting bargain prices. Call me old, but back in my day, $4.99 wasn’t considered a bargain. Also, regular tacos were 49 cents. [...]
