YOUR TV IS ‘SCREW’ED
Summer TV programming looks to books as source material with increasing regularity. For instance, Thursday, July 27 is the Sci-Fi Channel premiere of THE AMAZING SCREW-ON HEAD, a half-hour animated pilot from HELLBOY creator Mike Mignola’s graphic novel of the same name. Screw-on Head is a secret agent for President Abraham Lincoln and is voiced by Paul Giamatti. And on Sunday, July 23, ABC Family airs the two-hour film FALLEN, based on Thomas E. Sniegoski’s fantasy novels about a teenager having disturbing dreams of warring angels. Two sequels will follow in 2007. And finally, TNT is in the middle of its four-week anthology miniseries NIGHTMARES & DREAMSCAPES, adapting eight short stories by Stephen King.
AND SPEAKING OF STEPHEN KING…
Cover art has been released for his novel LISEY’S STORY, due Oct. 24. His first book since CELL, LISEY marks a bit of departure for the horror master, being a quasi-love story concerning a writer’s widow who receives threatening messages and transports to another dimension. Those of you who have read the Michael Chabon-edited MCSWEENEY’S ENCHANTED CHAMBER OF ASTONISHING STORIES collection already have read a good chunk of LISEY.
AW, I NEVER WIN ANYTHING!
It’s been a while since BOOKGASM has had a contest, but we’re pleased to announce we’ve got one coming very soon, and it’s a good one. So keep your eyes peeled and your crucifix handy.

I thought King was supposed to retire, like, 5 years ago…
That was just the painkillers talking.
