All the news that’s fit to capsulize!
A KINDER KINDLE
Amazon has reduced the price to its popular e-book reader Kindle to $359. Its selection now includes more than 130,000 books, blogs, newspapers and magazines, and all NEW YORK TIMES bestsellers are $9.99 or less. (I’m still awaiting a sexier design upgrade.)

OF COURSE ‘DUNE’ IS ON IT
Sci-fi books are like gold for Hollywood studios to mine, but that doesn’t mean they all turn out shiny. io9 looks at 10 Books That Were Better Off on Paper, including V FOR VENDETTA and I, ROBOT. Kinda surprised to see MINORITY REPORT on it, though.
GETTING ‘HARD’ NEXT YEAR
Hard Case Crime has announced a couple of upcoming acquisitions, one old and one:
• Donald E. Westlake’s THE CUTIE, which is the first novel he ever wrote.
• Jason Starr’s FAKE I.D., in its first-ever American edition. It’s about a bar bouncer who plays the ponies. We’re assuming he doesn’t win.
MUSIC TO READ BY
In an effort to compete with iTunes with DRM-free downloads, Amazon has amped up its Amazon MP3 program with low-cost deals. It recently announced its “Daily Deals” and “Friday Five,” which offer deep discounts on select albums. “Daily Deals” is updated daily, while “Friday Five” offers five albums for $5 every Friday and through the weekend. —Rod Lott
