‘GUTTER’ BALL
The demented minds behind OUT OF THE GUTTER MAGAZINE have launched a new flash fiction site called THE FLASH FICTION OFFENSIVE. It consists of degenerate crime stories that can be read in five minutes or less. Currently, some are reprints from various issues of OOTG, but others are brand-new and may even make the leap from screen to ink to appear in future issues. And speaking of that, OOTG’s next carries a theme of sexploitation.

SHARING SCI-FI
Young, budding authors wishing to enter the realm of fantasy have an opportunity to learn from some of the best in the field when Shared Worlds, a two-week workshop in fantasy and sci-fi worldbuilding, runs from July 19 to Aug. 1 at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. Open to grades eight through 12, the program includes instructors Jeff and Ann VanderMeer (FAST SHIPS, BLACK SAILS), Holly Black (THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES) and Tobias Buckell (SLY MONGOOSE). Said Jeff VanderMeer, “This really is a unique opportunity for talented teens to mix having fun and flexing their imaginations with developing skills that will serve them well no matter what they decide to do with their lives.” A limited number of partial scholarships are available.

SURE BEATS FILING THAT 1040
Authors will want to talk all about themselves on FiledByAuthor, a new online directory of writers that seeks to unite them with readers. It launched in March with more than 1.8 million author pages, and is free to every published author in the United States and Canada. —Rod Lott
