All the news that’s fit to capsulize!
MORE BRAINS! AND EVEN MORE BRAINS!
Permuted Press was pulling a fast one on all of us, announcing a sequel to THE UNDEAD: ZOMBIE ANTHOLOGY, when really they were prepping two simultaneously. Both due on Aug. 1, THE UNDEAD: SKIN AND BONES and THE UNDEAD: FLESH FEAST each will feature 15 stories and a novella, from talents like David Wellington, Eric Shapiro, D.L. Snell and five different guys named Matt or Matthew. The cover art is cool; we expect both editions to rock.
TURNING YOU ON … AGAIN
Our forums are now officially dead. Thanks, spambots! As of now, our original and much-missed comments feature has been turned back on, allowing you to post comments on the actual page rather than going to an external forums site. Until we turned comments off a year ago, they were really popular, so we hope to get action going again. Either click on the “Comments” link atop every post or jump to the end of each post to get there. Remember the rules: Stay on topic and don’t get ugly; it’s fine to disagree but don’t get personal. So use it! But please, don’t abuse it. Now let yourself be heard!
ALONG CAME A PATTERSON
Scheduled for July 12-15 in New York City, this year’s ThrillerFest will honor James Patterson with the 2007 Thrillermaster Award for outstanding achievement in the genre. But don’t let that put you off, because also in the four-day lineup are David Morrell, Douglas Preston, Lee Child, Jeffrey Deaver, Clive Cussler and more. Get the scoop at the International Thriller Writers Inc. website. In other ITW news, the group has launched a series of “Brunch & Bullets” author luncheons in Los Angeles to benefit local chapters of Reading Is Fundamental. A ticket gets you lunch, a program, a free book of your choosing and perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see Patterson choke on a chicken bone.
FORGING AHEAD ON THE WEB
If you’ve ever logged on to Tor Books’ website in the past and been maddening frustrated at the lack of any new information, give it another click. Tor and Forge has just redesigned – and they mean “redesigned” – its virtual home, and now it’s chock full of everything it once lacked: info, excerpts, details, plans, what-have-you.
‘VEGAS’ TIE-INS A BUST
Do I detect a trend in the covers of Jeff Mariotte’s SLEIGHT OF HAND and HIGH STAKES GAME tie-in novels for NBC’s hit LAS VEGAS? I’m not complaining, mind you – just informing.
DEB, YOU TAUNT
Don’t know what to read first of a particular author? Debbie does! Debbiesidea.com is a new website that allows users to recommend and discover the best starting points for reading authors. It’s free.
BONUS XXX-CERPT
Dierdre undressed him slowly, kissing him here and there, then she shucked off her own clothes, revealing a body that had everything
her dress had promised. … Stone was delighted to find that he couldn’t think of anything but what was happening at that moment. He was tumescent and oblivious. Dierdre helped with that, bringing him to full attention with her lips and tongue. “God, I love porterhouse,” she said. Stone could make noises, but he couldn’t form words. He put his hands under her ass and lifted her onto him. She supplied the only lubrication necessary. … He settled into her as if she were a bear rug.

I wonder if the ols-school science fiction publishers (Tor, Del Rey, etc.) are starting to feel some heat from Pyr in the community management/information department. If so, great! It’s good for us, the readers.
Note to self: Read comments before submitting, especially when you’re as unfortunately voweled as I am. Of course, I meant “old school,” like the movie and LL Cool J.
