Hard Case to PEDDLE Prather

the peddler richard pratherThis coming Christmas (just 11 more months to shop, folks!) should prove extra sweet as Hard Case Crime will release THE PEDDLER by Richard S. Prather. Editor Charles Ardai called the 1952 title “not only one of the best books Prather ever wrote, it’s one of the best crime novels I’ve read, period. THE PEDDLER is brutal and emotionally charged and – more than 50 years after it was first published! – still genuinely shocking.”

Prather penned it under his Douglas Ring pseudonym. One look at the old cover at right suggests this title is ready-made for the Hard Case line.

In other Hard Case news, Ardai announced the imprint has reupped its contract with Dorchester Publishing, securing another year of quality releases throughout 2007. “And just wait till you see what we’re brewing up for you!,” he said. “Terrific little-known reprints, exciting new novels, and maybe a special surprise or two along the way.”

Only if they could lower the prices a bit, I mean 6.99 for a book I’ll fly through in an afternoon. Still I’ll be making some purchases

I look at it this way: $6.99 is still by-the-minute cheaper entertainment-wise than a movie or DVD. Plus, their price point is still about a buck below most other mass market paperbacks.

I also like that every Hard Case book is priced the same no matter what the page count, because Max Allan Collins’ TWO FOR THE MONEY is almost 400 pages.
