Hey, I don't just dish out comments that easily. They have to be earned, you know?

Anyway, I hate lists like this. They just remind me how little I've read in the past year.

Agreed with your take on the Hollywood books - the plots seemed disjointed at first but it all seems to come together in the end. Wambaugh's best work since the 1970s.

Lost City of Z was also great. I initially thought that Grann's incorporation of his own personal quest would diminish the story, but it actually worked well.

Bartlett's Man Who Loved Books, however, was overrated. This was basically a magazine essay which was padded to make a book. She made the same points over and over. There are much better books about obsession and book collecting such as Basbanes' Gentle Madness or the Goldstone's Used and Rare.

I read the first 2 Wambaugh HOLLYWOOD books and I found that the plot actually slowed them down. I like the first hundred pages or so where it's just kind of a series of related vignettes more than the actual plot. Still, I'm really looking forward to reading the new one. For the most part I agree about the books I've read, am looking forward to reading some of the ones I haven't and will try to check out some of the ones I haven't heard of.

And DETECTIVE COMICS has really been amazing. Williams is just too good.

It's not a dig at gamers, Louis, but a book that feels like it's pandering to them. I was referring to studies that suggest low readership of books among non-adult players in particular (blogs are another story).
