5 Fall Books I Can’t Wait to Read

anansi boys neil gaiman review* ANANSI BOYS – Neil Gaiman’s AMERICAN GODS is one of the 10 best books I’ve ever read. This is a semi-sequel, set in that bestselling fantasy’s world, centered on a few supporting characters. Other than that, I don’t know much about it, except that just thinking about it is making my head hurt. Because I want it. (Sept. 20)

* TYRANNOSAUR CANYON – After polishing off BRIMSTONE and DANCE OF DEATH, Douglas Preston goes Lincoln Child-less for a sequel to last year’s THE CODEX. And no, despite the title, it’s not a JURASSIC PARK rip-off. (Aug. 23)

* PROFOUNDLY EROTIC: SEXY MOVIES THAT CHANGED HISTORY – This is drive-in movie critic Joe Bob Briggs’ follow-up to PROFOUNDLY DISTURBING. If you like that, but thought it should focus more on movies with lotsa sex like LOLITA or EMMANUELLE, this is for you. And by “you,” I mean “me,” if you know what I’m saying and I think that you do. (Oct. 18)

* CREEPERS – David Morrell’s macho-action novels don’t hold much appeal to me, but when he chooses to work in the arena of dark suspense, as he has in several excellent short stories, the man has my full attention and respect. This – set in an abandoned hotel – looks to be one of them. (Sept. 6)

* THE NEW ANNOTATED SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE NOVELS – The previous box set which collected all the short stories is so definitive, they’ll have to redefine the word. It’s also so pretty that I’m halfway afraid to touch it. Now it gets a loving sibling as all four of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Holmes novels are collected in one spiffy, supplement-laden set. (Nov. 7)

Very curious about ANANSI BOYS, but I’ve had enough Joe Bob Briggs to last a lifetime.

[...] • RAMBO creator David Morrell foregoes his usual macho-man actioners with CREEPERS, a more horror-oriented thriller about urban explorers in a supposedly haunted hotel. Morrell really excels at suspense and the reviews are strong, which is why I picked this as one of the 5 Fall Books I Can’t Wait to Read. Check back soon for our review. [...]

[...] When we last left veterinarian turned accidental archaeologist Tom Broadbent, he was swinging through the dangerous jungles of Honduras with his brothers, searching for dad’s hidden treasure, in last summer’s fun read THE CODEX. Now millions of dollars richer, Broadbent finds things aren’t necessarily quiet at home in TYRANNOSAUR CANYON. It was one of the five fall books we spotlighted as those we most looked forward to, and for damn good reason, as it turns out. [...]
